Roaches are one of the most embarrassing insects in a house, roaming day or night and to any corner especially when there are guests around.

The worst is when the roaches raid your cupboard and invade your flour, sugar, rice and other foodstuffs to the embarrassment of the home owner through the food served.

Roaches can also decide to do a marathon right in front of your guests.

Many people devise ways to keep the roaches away, and at times succeed, but they will always stream in again if your neighbour ‘is unknowingly breeding’ them especially if you live in a flat.

Alice Wambui went to the market and bought plastic pegs, which she would use to hold her flour holding bags firmly closed from the roaches.

Wambui said people were always amused when they visited her house and saw the pegs holding the foodstuffs.

“I could explain time and again the pegs were to keep out the roaches,” said Wambui.

Nick Wambua, however, adopted a different method of ridding his house off the roaches.

“My house has lines and more lines of what looks like white chalk, but this is poison for the roaches that kills them. I also use powdered poison placed at strategic points, especially dark corners where roaches love to hide,” said Wambua.

He adds that the roaches are so manner less they invaded their office in Nairobi.

Wambua said the office roaches are the worst as people come with food, and eat while dropping crumbs everywhere. They also love the kitchen area where there is a dustbin and food remains, Wambua added.

Roach poison sellers are many especially at bus stops and in markets, and the poison is sold for as little as Sh100.

Another trap for the roaches is a glue card, where the insect sticks and is unable to move.

Different tactics, including stepping on a roach you see crawling past you; anything to rid houses off this high multiplying roaches is welcome.
