A Nyamira-based widow group has announced its intention to support more children from impoverished families at institutions of higher learning.
Mogusii Widow Group came into existence in 1999 and has seen more than 20 students receive education from institutions of higher learning through profits made from their farming businesses.
According to the chairlady, Mrs Helen Aminga, the group now intends to support area orphans after their project of supporting their children succeeded.
“As a group, we are happy that a number of our children and relatives have been supported successfully by this group through our farming business. We now intend to support orphans from this region (total orphans) as an appreciation to what God has done to us,” Aminga said.
She said the group was also considering enrolling more women regardless of their marital status to make it achieve an enormous impact on the education sector.
“Our main objective was to educate our children and soon this will no longer be a widow’s affair. We are in advanced stages of introducing more women to the group regardless of their marital status for the sake of supporting education in this region,” she said.
Mrs Aminga said the number of beneficiaries (orphans) will be made public moments after the outcome of KCSE 2015 results.
“We are waiting for the release of KCSE 2015 so that we identify the neediest cases that we can support. We believe in giving to the society. We can basically support that through farming profits and a top up from beneficiaries who are now working,” she added.
