A woman was shot dead by police in Thika’s Majengo area after she allegedly engaged the officers in a shootout.
Thika deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie said police were alerted that there was a theft incident in the area last night and the members of public suspected one of the men who moved in three weeks ago together with a woman were the suspects.
The police ambushed the couple and when the suspect noticed the police, he drew a pistol and fired at them before escaping through the window. He left the woman shooting at the police. She was eventually shot dead by the officers.
Property worth over Sh200,000 which include clothes, electronics, phones and other property have been impounded and taken to the Thika Police Station.
Meanwhile Kiarie said police will be pursuing the suspect who escaped adding they will continue with investigations until they apprehend him.
She said the recovered goods were suspected to have been stolen from either shops or houses within Thika Town within the last one month.
She added that cases of houses and shops being broken into had increased and the key suspects identified.
Kiarie, however, asked residents who might be missing their items to visit Thika Police Station to help identify them from the recovered items.
