A 35-year-old woman has been charged before a Kisumu law court for selling counterfeit mobile phones to unsuspecting customers.

Beatrice Keino also faced a second count of displaying counterfeit phones with the intention to trade. She also faced a third count of operating a business entity without a permit.

She denied the three counts before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Susan Owino.

Keino, who is an electronic shop operator within Kisumu town, is said to have been selling counterfeit phones to customers.

In her defence, Keino told the court to be lenient with her and free her because she was just an employee.

“I am just a simple employee who needs to be freed because it is my employer that is behind all this,” said Keino.

She was charged together with her boss Gregory Okello but he was not present at the court.

Akello was released on a cash bail of Sh10,00 with a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on March 25.
