The newly elected Machakos Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) women representative Jane Muthoni has called upon women in leadership to take the responsibility of mentoring the girl child.
Speaking during the conclusion of the girl guides 3-days meeting in Machakos Township primary school, Muthoni urged the education sector to support scouting.
"All the leaders both men and ladies, mostly ladies should come out and support the girl guides association movement as mentors," she added.
Muthoni further noted that the girl guide association has in the past had difficulties in finding support from leaders.
"We need both financial and physical support so as to reach many children in different areas so that our girls are groomed to be good leaders," she added.
However, a student from Katoloni Secondary school Sheryl Kandagola who is also a girl guide has urged the government to offer support to needy children who are willing to join the association.
"I urge leaders of the government of Kenya to support the girl guides who are not able to purchase the uniform by creating a specific account," she added.
The event saw 397 girl guides from primary, secondary and even colleges from Machakos County convene together.
