Women in Kisii are set to benefit from a water project piloted by the county government.

According the wife of Kisii Governor James Ongwae, Elizabeth Ongwae, women travel for long distances in dry spells to fetch water.

“We are aware that women are the one who are mostly affected in the society during dry season so we need to be in the forefront to help end the menace as the county has planned to install water in our homes,” said Ms Ongwae.

Speaking on Wednesday after presiding over the planting of trees in Nyambera Catholic church in Kisii town, Ms Ongwae said women were most hit with diminishing wood fuel and water has she challenged them be in the forefront by participating in forestation activities to mitigate climate change effects.

She also urged the women to come together and for groups which will enable them to develop and help the county to grow.

“Women are the mirror of the nation so we need to come together and set goals which will help us to develop,” added Ms Ongwae.
