Youths and women in the Nyanza region have been asked to register and get identification and voters cards in readiness for the 2017 general election.
Speaking in Kisumu on Sunday at a Luo Cultural Festival event held at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds, Gwasi MP John Mbadi said that the identification and the voter cards are the only tools to be used to root out corrupt leaders out of office.
He said that the youths and women from the region suffer during election periods as they cannot elect whoever they think deservers leadership.
The legislator said that the registration should be devolved to enable more people especially the affected group, youths and women, get identification cards.
“I am calling upon all governors to ensure that the process of registration of persons is brought to the county level to ease the process at a central place in Nairobi,” said Mbadi.
His statements was echoed by Ndhiwa Sub County youth leader Peter Ogalo. The leader urged the youth to register as voters and wait for the 2017 general elections.
“There is more time before the elections. Let us register now and put in good leaders in office,” said Ogalo.
At the same event songs and dances were sung to advocate for registration.
The Ramogi dancers asked those who had attained the age of 18 to get registered.
