The government has been told not to interfere with the workers union's elections slated for this year.
According to the Kenya Electrical Trade and Allied Workers Union national Secretary General Ernest Nadome, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions elections will take place on May 21.
Speaking after his re-election for the position in union elections held in Kisumu on Saturday, Nadome said the union should be left to carry out its elections devoid of interference from any quarters.
“We, the workers union of this country feels that our constitutional elections should go on uninterrupted by any forces. We would wish to have free and fair election process,” said Nadome.
He said the workers union's Constitution allowed for its elections after every five years, adding that last elections were conducted in 2011.
In the elections, Nadome said the entire National Union leaders were re-elected unopposed, with elected as the Union Secretary General, Korir Kosgei (Vice Secretary), David Songok (Chairman), Vincent Okulo (first Vice Chair), James Maina (second Vice Chairman) and Peter Mutua (Treasurer).
Nadome said the new team will be in office for the next five years and pledged they will work together with the government in addressing the plight of Kenyan workers.
