Residents of Yatta Sub-County, Machakos County, have been urged to maintain high levels of personal hygiene in a bid to prevent spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera.
Speaking on Friday at Kithimani Parish where he had attended a mass, Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi said that cases of cholera had been reported in the county, thus the need for the residents to ensure they maintain good hygiene.
The MP said that residents should exercise proper hygiene when preparing food during this festive season, to avoid spreading the disease to a large number of people.
Mwangangi cautioned residents against drinking contaminated water and advised them to always wash their hands after visiting the toilet.
"Cholera is a deadly disease that kills within no time and so everyone should take the necessary precautions to avoid the disease. As we all know, prevention is better than cure,” said Mwangangi.
He further urged residents to ensure they maintain peace in the sub-county and share with the less fortunate this festive season.
