Small scale farmers in Kibera have complained of theft of their produce that has reportedly increased during this rainy season.

The farmers said Tuesday the thieves are taking advantage of the rains to steal their vegetables.

The head of Kibera Junction youth self help group chairman Edmond Mugita said theft cases are gradually rising.

“We are always waking up to a surprise. People come when we have taken shelter from the rains and steal from us. Last week, someone broke into our fish pond and stole fish. Later on we heard that our fellow youths had lost their rabbits,’’ complained Mugita.

He warned the thieves that their days are numbered.

Mugita says most theft cases happen at night when it is raining.

“Thieves come mostly at night. It’s because they know no one will persevere the cold weather for the sake of vegetables, their days are numbered so let them know,’ he added.
