Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leaders from Bomachoge Chache have questioned the commitment of the party’s Secretary General Ababu Namwamba saying his strategies to counter rival Jubilee party were diminishing.
Speaking in Ogembo on Monday during a consultative meeting, the officials led by Secretary General Maina Bwomwenga said Namwamba had ‘softened’ his stand and questioned his commitment to revamp the party at the grassroots.
They said the party’s activities at the grassroots were being neutralised due to minimal support from the party’s headquarters.
“As youths, we respect Ababu Namwamba because he is one of the leaders who many youths emulate. However, we are concerned about his commitment in revamping the party. He has never dared to meet a number of party’s grassroots leaders, something which is vital in revamping of any party,” Bwomwenga said.
According to them, Namwamba had also failed to execute his mandate in defending the party’s position in a number of key issues with Eurobond saga being key among them.
“We are not adequately funded as grassroots leaders to spearhead the party’s agenda and that is the mandate of the secretary general to ensure all is well planned. He (Namwamba) has also taken a low profile when the party is handling key issues like the Eurobond scandal. We expect him to be on the front line in supporting the party leader Raila Odinga,” he added.
They however backed the secretary general and urged him to ‘wake up’ and execute his duties as the party’s spokesman by articulating key issues and ensuring implementation of a number of policies.
“We have no doubt however that he is a competent man. We need him to wake up and execute his job perfectly. Otherwise the party’s 2017 victory will be dependent on his commitment as secretary general of the party,” he said.
