An estimated Sh11.9 million uwezo fund remains uncollected at the Gatundu North Sub County development fund’s office in Kiambu County.
Gatundu North CDF manager Joel Kirimi lamented that application from groups looking for the fund was very low.
“The money has been in my office for quite a while as I have only received a handful of requests from women and youth in the area. I really don’t know what is wrong with our youngsters,” he said.
However, Kirimi reported that his office would next week release a few cheques worth Sh2.4 million to the few groups who had applied come next week.
Kirimi, who made the remarks during the donations of tanks to the youth in Kanyoni and women groups on Tuesday, urged more women and youth to form groups which should be registered with the social and gender department to access the Uwezo fund.
The manager, who was accompanied by the CDF coordinator Nancy Gachoka among others, donated two water tanks to four youths who deal with car washing projects and women groups to support their domestic water needs.
Addressing the crowd, Gachoka said that constituency office was committed to ensuring that the youth and women from the region started income generating projects to improve their living standards.
