A section of youths in Kiambu County has opposed plans by politicians in Jubilee to merge political parties into one party, Jubilee Party.
Speaking on Thursday in Kiambu town, the youth argued that the merger will exclude many young people from running for election.
Julie Waweru, who is the National Youth Council Kiambu branch chairperson, said the youth will be left out as it will be hard to battle it out with the experienced politicians as competition will be high.
"Many youth will be locked out as they have no political muscle to battle it out with the old guards in nominations," said Waweru.
"Jubilee party should be formed to serve as an umbrella party but not to be monopolised," she added.
The youth also complained of being short-changed by the government as they have been left out in preparations of the planned merger.
"The Jubilee government manifesto promised to prioritise the youth, but we are seeing is different. We are not even consulted even when policies concerning us are being formulated," complained Waweru.
