Residents of Zambezi, Kikuyu Sub County demonstrated over claims police had slept on their job following increased rape cases in the area.
This is after a mother and a daughter were both raped on their way home at around 9pm last night when they were attacked by a gang said to have been engaging in this crime. Residents claimed that this was the 7th incident since January and they claimed the same gang has been committing the offence and also robbing locals yet no notable action had been taken
Speaking to a residents during the demonstration, Martha Waithera a resident in the area said that cases of rape had increased dramatically since January but no action had been taken to curb these cases. She revealed that these incidents were taking place not very late at night stating that most cases were committed from 10pm.
“It’s also been known that it’s a specific gang that engages in this criminal act and they have gone to an extent of breaking to some houses and committing the offence and robbing,” said Waithera.
She said that women were being abused in such a manner and the suspects were not arrested hence making it even hard for these women to live in the society. She said justice had to be done to these women to avoid other women to also join the group.
Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu slammed the accusations stating that police had intensified patrols in the area. He revealed that last week they also had a meeting with areas administrators to help fight the crime.
“Last night a mother and her daughter were also raped and robbed and no stone will be left unturned in this issue. We have intelligence that a gang identified as untouched in the area has been committing the offences,’’ said Maweu.
