Slum dwellers who have not applied for electricity through the slum upgrading project will have to go for the normal application process starting August 1, or continue living in darkness.
The slum upgrading project, which is a project by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company and The World Bank, is set to close its doors on 31st July 2015.
The project, which commenced at the beginning of the 2014/2015 financial year has been targeting households in slums, installing power at a cheaper price of Sh1,160 only.
Speaking at a forum with residents from Eldoret Langas slums on Monday, Jonah Owade, KPLC North Rift regional Marketing Officer said that the deadline was looming large, and there was need for the residents to apply before it was too late.
“Once the end of this month comes, you will be required to apply for electricity through the other means which will require you to pay more money and is even a lengthier process,” Owade said.
The Marketing officer urged the residents to make sure they had applied for installation of electricity latest Friday afternoon, and ensure they pay full amount before the deadline.
The slum upgrading project has taken place in Munyaka estates, Huruma, Shauri Moyo among other estates in Eldoret and others like Mathare and Kibera nationally.
