Three men accused of hijacking a taxi appeared before a Kisumu chief magistrate court on Monday to answer to the charges.
The three; Stephen Osiolo, Martin Ambani and Paul Omollo pleaded not guilty to the charges before Kisumu chief magistrate Lucy Gitari for the offence allegedly committed on the June 5, 2015 in Kisumu’s Polyview estate.
According to the prosecution, they allegedly hijacked a taxi in Polyview, which was occupied by the driver alone at the time.
They were arrested in Migosi a few hours after they allegedly hijacked the taxi, after the matter was reported to the police.
One of the men allegedly hired the hijacked taxi from the driver, and asked him to go to Polyview estate to collect three other men.
On the way, they allegedly directed him to nearby abandoned shop pavements, where they allegedly threatened him with knives and ordered him out of the taxi, before driving off with it.
The driver reported the incident at the Kondele police station, and a search operation was conducted and the taxi was found parked in Migosi Estate.
At the time of the hijacking, two of the suspects were out on bail in a case where they face charges of possessing firearms illegally.
