Pius Okinyi, who was arrested on Saturday at his home together with other revelers pleaded not guilty before Kisumu chief magistrate Lucy Gitari.

According to the prosecution, the accused has a behaviour of brewing outlawed liquor and selling it to people, and he operates without any licence from the concerned authorities.

During the arrest, 20 revelers were also arrested in the swoop that was conducted by police from the Chulaimbo police post.

They were later released on Sunday due to lack of evidence linking them to the trade.

Equipment used in the brewing were confiscated, while the already brewed liquor was destroyed.

Okinyi however told the court that his liquor was not harmful, as no one had complained and there was no need of creating a big fuss about his business as many people are indulging in it to make a living.

The prosecution asked the court not to grant the accused bail as they were still conducting investigations, as there is belief that more equipment used in the brewing are still hidden at his place.

Okinyi was consequently remanded for seven days until next week on Monday when the case will be heard.
