Students of Kairi Boys High school in Gituamba ward, Gatundu North sub county have every reason to smile, after a dormitory that has been under construction for four years was completed at a cost of Sh9 million drawn from the area Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Addressing parents and the students on Monday, Dickson Thumbi, the school principal said the new dormitory will help ease congestion in the existing ones.
‘This dormitory has been a losing battle to us as the school management for four years now, thanks to Gatundu North CDF for making it a realized dream, this as you have all seen parents will ease congestion in the already existing dormitories as well as creating a conducive environment for students learning,” said Thumbi.
The principal said the number of students joining the school had trebled in the last four years, hence the congestion in the dormitories.
According to the principal, the recommended number per dormitory was 80 students, but the number had risen to 120.
Thumbi was speaking when the contractor officially handed over the building to the school management.
“Having the recommended number of students in the dorms will make it easy to maintain hygiene and ease escaping means in case of a fire,” he added.
Speaking also during the same opening, the area constituency deputy CDF chairman Anthony Njenga called on the government to improve the empowerment of a boy child, since he was neglected for long.
“The boy child has been abandoned by the whole society ranging from the government, human rights officers, parents and even religious leaders; I ask the government to commence playing a fair game on boy empowerment to avoid messing with tomorrow’s leadership,” Njenga added.
Njenga revealed the determination of the area MP Kigo Njenga to improve the quality of education, pointing out that the area hasvery bright students who can bring a change in the society.
