A section of Subukia Sub County residents in Nakuru County have appealed to the county government to expedite plans to allocate grounds for a dumpsite.
This is as a solution to the problem of increased dumping at the public cemetery which is now full.
The residents are complaining of what they termed lack of proper facilities to ensure hygiene as the place, also evidently, lacks a public toilet. This, they cited, has accelerated the growing cases of diseases outbreaks in the area.
“We don’t have a specific dumping site for garbage and that is why people have turned this cemetery into a dumping site. The cemetery itself is now full," James Waiyaki, a resident said.
He added, "We are even afraid of more disease outbreaks as the place is filthy. The county government should speedily look into the matter as wastes from homes are dumped there.”
The residents also want the county government to ensure that they get access to public toilets whose lack, even in bus termini, in the town is conspicuous.
“The only toilet we have in the town was recently built at the PCEA grounds. We therefore need a county-funded public facility since it is the right of the taxpayers. The leaders we elected have forgotten that we sent them to represent our plight and address it. If elections were to be held tomorrow, none of the current leaders would get my vote,” John Kinuthia, another resident said.
