Speaking Friday during the exercise at the hosptal’s premises, Kibosia said street children are like other children and that they have the right to quality health care which they should access without difficulties.

"We decided to carry out this mental checkup to mark the World Mental Health Day since if you are not affected directly you are affected indirectly. Statistics show that out of four Kenyans, one of them has a mental disorder and one needs to be embraced and loved for him/her to become well," he said.

He reiterated that during the health check, over 100 streets children who were attended to, 10 were found to have mental disorder due to the use of alcohol, gums and all types of drugs.

"Those 10 street children that were found to have mental disorder will admit them to our newly opened mental unit and will treat them free of charge until they become conscious," he added.

He urged Uasin Gishu county government to give street children both financial and moral support such drugs, food and shelter since with such support will easily refrain them from using drugs which is the main cause of mental impairment.
