A 26 year-old man will serve an 11 months jail term if he fails to raise Sh30,000 fine after he was found guilty of stealing property worth Sh19,000 by a Nakuru court. Peter Mwangi, the accused is said to have stolen the property from Peter Gachie Njoroge in Mirangine in Nakuru County on June 26.

In his mitigation before magistrate Liz Gicheha, the accused accepted the charge placed against him and told the Court that he was propelled to steal after his efforts of seeking help from his grandfather fell on deaf ears He further pleaded with the court to forgive him saying that he was an orphan who was the only sole bread winner of his family of a wife and two children.

“I was forced to steal because my grandfather who has been taking care of me since my parents died refused to help me. I am pleading with this court to forgive me because I am the bread winner of my family and in case I am jailed my wife and two kids will have no one to look at them” he said.

However after listening to his pleas he was ordered to pay a fine of Sh30,000 or consequently serve a jail term of 11 months.
