After living with fistula for 50 years, 80-year-old Mama Priscah Ariri has called on other women to seek treatment as the condition is treatable.
Ariri got the treatment at a free fistula camp at Kisii Referral and Teaching Hospital organised by the Flying Doctors Society of Africa (FDSA).
Speaking on Tuesday, Ariri could not hide her joy saying that she had to endure the condition for decades.
“I am now very happy and I am free from what I have been passing through. Now I can associate with my fellows who have been running away from me,” said Mama Ariri.
Ariri said the problem started when she was pregnant and unfortunately her unborn baby died while in the womb. When she went to the hospital, allegedly doctors attending to her used wires to pull out the baby, something that caused the problem.
She added that the problem developed as she could not bear any more children. Her three children born earlier have been supporting her as she was unable to anything.
