A 65-year-old man suffering from breast cancer has appealed for help from the government and well-wishers.
Paulo Ayubson Ondere, who has been sick for more than three years, on Saturday called on the government to help him raise Sh2 million for treatment.
He also asked Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o to help him get treatment through his cancer foundation.
Nyong'o set up the Africa Cancer Foundation after he was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer last year.
While making his appeal through a press statement, Ondere said: “I have not been able to get any proper medical attention because I can no longer afford the expenses.”
Ondere, from Emuhaya, Vihiga County, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the Lancet Laboratories Centre in Kisumu where he was reffered to Oncologist Dr Eliud Njuguna.
He developed a deep hole on his left breast which had to be cleaned.
Ondere said he can no longer work and cannot afford chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
“My family has spent close to Sh18 million for several sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy since I was diagnosed with the cancer,” he said.
Ondere said chemotherapy and radiotherapy cost Sh51,000 and Sh45,000 respectively.
He has also gone several immune booster and bone booster sessions costing Sh3,000 and 12,000 every three months.
He also had to undergo surgery to drain water that had accumulated in his lungs and stomach causing blockage.
“Draining of the water and cleaning the wounds cost me Sh5 million,” he said.
After the surgery, Ondere had to go for three chemotherapy and 10 radiotherapy sessions.
The family is appealing to Kenyans to help them raise the money to enable the patient undergo the remaining chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
