An abandoned bag at Sironga bus stage in Nyamira South sub county caused panic in the area until police came in to ensure nothing harmful was in the bag.

According to eye witnesses who first saw the bag, it was abandoned on Sunday afternoon by an unknown person and it had been lying there until Monday morning when boda boda riders raised an alarm over it.

Daniel Kengere, a boda boda rider, said he saw the bag at the stage on Sunday 2pm and he thought the owner of the bag was around.

He said he became suspicious when he found the bag still lying on the same spot on Monday morning.

“We asked everyone in the stage if they knew the owner of the bag but no one had such information,” said Mr Kengere.

The bag remained lying there for several hours until the boda boda operator and members of the public reported the matter to police at the nearest police station in Sironga who came and took the bag.

Confirming the incident, Nyamira police boss Rico Ngare said they have already checked the bag and there were just clothes inside.

“No need for the residents to panic, the situation is under control and we thank them for the information,” said Mr Ngare.
