An abandoned bag at a maize plantation in Nakuru yesterday caused fear as passers-by suspected it contained Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The bag was found a few metres away from the Nakuru ASK showground where the national agricultural show is slated to take place today. It caused a stir among the Ask organisers and residents alike.
The police who were earlier alerted by the residents arrived at the scene at around 8am and condoned off the area as they kept the eager onlookers from the scene.
The bomb experts who inspected the bag found clothes, book and other personal belongings.
Drama unfolded two hours later when a student emerged and told the police that he had left the bag in the maize plantation for security reasons.
The student claimed that he had been travelling at night but arrived in town late, prompting him to leave the bag at the maize plantation for fear that he would be robbed.
Having abandoned the bag, the student proceeded to a friend’s house.
Police officers at the scene set the student free, warning him to be more careful.
