A hospital accountant was arraigned before a Nakuru court on Monday to answer to charges of stealing over Sh4 million as a servant.

Elkana Awino jointly with others who were not before court was accused of stealing Sh4,813,713 from Ruth Scholer, his employer, on diverse dates between 2010 and 2015 at Rhein Valley Hospital in Mbaruk within Nakuru County.

Awino was arrested on August 14 after the management investigated the hospital account records and allegedly found out that he had been awarding himself double his salary among other allegations of theft.

Awino allegedly managed to obtain the money after he worked for the hospital as an accountant and the hospital's management says that its by that virtue that he managed to alter the records.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joel Ng'eno, He pleaded innocent and requested that the court gives him favourable bond terms.

He was given a surety bond of Sh. 2,000,000. The case will be mentioned on September 17 and heard on October 5.
