A Nakuru well wisher who cleans toilets in Nakuru public primary schools now wants the county government to divert the money slated for El~Nino into constructing more toilets.
Lilian King of the Adopt-A-Loo Initiative said that the poor condition of the toilets in the schools would be disastrous in case there was an outbreak of the rains which were slated early this month.
She pointed out that theSh500 million set aside by the county was enough to sink boreholes in schools which would solve the water crisis.
King said that the county risked another cholera outbreak in schools once the heavy rains started.
“Our biggest fear is that this toilets will collapse and the ones which are full will spill over yet the children will still be forced to sue them as they have no alternatives," she added.
She accused the county of not coming up with a proper and planned strategy to deal with the El~Nino issue.
“We have not seen any plan as to how the money will be distributed to the various affected people. They should put their priorities well and especially ensure that they sort out the drainage menace in the county,” she added
King appealed to the county government to also issue basic hygiene and cleanliness lessons to pupils as many did not observe proper hand washing activities.
