Kisumu County based human activist Killen Omondi has challenged employers to pay their nannies well.

Speaking today (Thursday) at Tom Mboya Labour College, activist Omondi alleged that most of the nannies are overwhelmed by their daily chores as set by their employers, yet they are paid little salary that is not commensurate to what they worked for.

According to the activist, nannies needed to be treated well just as fellow human beings noting that survey had proven that houses where nannies are employed, very few accorded them humanity respect they deserved.

Activist Omondi stated that the nannies should be paid handsomely since they do several of house chores that needed good pay, besides they should be treated well just as part of the family they work for.

"Let’s learn to respect our nannies as they are just humans like us, we should stop underpaying them and respect them just like our family members. By underpaying them we would have not empowered them economically,” noted the activist.

Omondi added that the Ministry of Labour should help advocate for the nannies' rights of being handsomely paid for what they do that is commensurate to the job they carry out.

According to Omondi, parents who complained about nannies mistreating their children most of them where necessitated by worse treatment they experience at their workplace.
