Borabu dairy farmers have a reason to smile after a company based in Rift Valley offered to buy milk from them.

Speaking on Sunday during the signing of an agreement with farmers, the Director of Rift Valley Creameries Cyrus Kipchumba said the company had received requests from farmers in the region to buy their milk.

Mr Kipchumba said the company will buy milk for Sh40 a litre from the farmers.

“They have been trying to reach us for a long time and we had to heed to their calls," he said.

"We have been in the milk business for a long time and I think they will be good customers for us. We agreed to give Sh40 per litre and the amount is set to increase depending on their customer-company relations."

The move was hailed by Charles Manwa who chairs the Borabu Dairy Farmers Association.

“We have put everything down on pen and some of the issues regarding transportation which we had differed with our former clients have been fixed. I hope the RVC will honour the agreement as we look forward to work with them,” he said.

Borabu settlement scheme is synonymous for its dairy farming but many farmers are said to have not got the best out of the farming due to many middlemen in the business.
