The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has donated 5,000 tissue culture banana suckers to the county government of Kisii.

According the officer in-charge of the USAID programme Mr George Odingo, the suckers are the first bunch of the 30,000 suckers that the organisation is distributing to the farmers in the county of Kisii to continue with the banana farming.

He said that banana is one among the value chains that the USAID is pushing to have among the farmers in Kisii County from the interest and the investment that the county has put into it.

He said that they were going to give 30,000 banana suckers while the county government was also going to give an additional 30,000 sucker to bring the total to 60,000.

Kisii County Agriculture CeC Mr Vincent Sagwe said the county has already purchased 30,000 suckers which they have already started distributing to the farmers so as to improve the banana farming sector in the county.

“The county government has bought 30,000 tissue culture suckers and we are giving them to farmers. Our partners the USAID have added us more suckers for the farmers and we are much grateful,” he said.
