According to the residents, the problem can be attributed to the on going teachers strike that has resulted in the closure of public schools.

Speaking to Hivisasa on Tuesday, the locals said that they are finding it hard to keep the children away from alcoholism as they cannot keep an eye on them all the time.

"Most of the time we go out looking for casual jobs and we leave these children at home, it becomes difficult to keep checking on them," said Mrs Petronillah Akinyi, a parent.

They raise their fears that lives maybe ruined if the teachers' strike does not end soon.

"We are trying our best to guide our children but sometimes it is beyond us, these children sometime drink secretly," said Mr James Owek, another parent.

The parents have condemned selling of alcohol to children and are urging the police to arrest those involved in selling the brews to children.
