A multi-million liquor manufacturing plant has been opened in Nakuru.
MDI Ltd, located at Mwariki estate in Nakuru town, joins the list of wines and spirits manufacturers with the latest state-of-the-art machines similar to the ones used by the government chemist to conduct tests.
Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Thursday led a team of public health officers, Kenya Bureau of Standards and government chemist officials in the official opening of the factory that manufactures a variety of drinks.
Among the brands manufactured by the company include Swapp Ice, Royal Vodka and Gin, Nest Gin and Vodka.
“This plant has come with benefits among them youth employment and provision of markets for products such as molasses and bottles,” said Mbugua.
Mbugua called on elected leaders to come up with legislation on tax incentives to support local industries.
The governor challenged security agencies and local administrators to remain vigilant in order to avoid infiltration of counterfeit products into the liquor and soft drinks industry.
MDI Ltd chief executive Michael Gaitho said the first step towards attaining international standards in manufacturing has been the acquisition of the gas chromatography machine in order to ensure that only safe products get into the market.
Gaitho promised that MDI will strive to provide quality products for its consumers.
