The Kibera Education Day will be held on October 16, at Jamhuri Primary School grounds.
Events to mark the day organised by Kibra MP Ken Okoth will kick off at 9am and end at 4pm.
Hundreds of pupils and students from schools in the slum will participate in activities that will crown the celebrations.
Among guests invited for the one-day event are officials from Non-Governmental Organisations based in the slum as well as officials from various county governments.
According to the Constituency Parliamentary Liaison Officer Vincent Ayako, the objective of the event is to award well performing schools and students who have shown outstanding performances in different subjects.
"We are set to award all the students, pupils, teachers and schools which performed well in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams," he said on Thursday in a telephone interview.
"This idea came from the area MP who wants to use it as a motivational factor to both scholars and schools to enhance healthy competitions."
Mr Ayako said the event is held annually.
He added that awarding schools had helped different institutions to compete against each other thereby uplifting students' performance.
"It has led to the improvement of the mean score in Kibera because schools are boosting their mean score every year. It is healthy competition."
