Some 56 missionaries from the United States have called on their compatriots to visit Kenya despite the Obama administration issuing travel warnings.

Addressing journalists in Nakuru on Friday, the missionaries, who are on a ten-day ministering mission in Nakuru town, said that the reception they were given at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was overwhelming. The visitors added that the tight security in and around the airport was impressive.

Head of the International Commission Woody Martin said they were feeling so much safer in Kenya compared to Texas where they reside.

“I do not see why tourists should fear visiting Kenya as the government has put in place adequate security measures and assured them of protection,” said Woody.

Chad Selph, a senior pastor with the International Commission, said that since they started their stay in Nakuru, the missionaries have not encountered any security threat, a clear indication that security is guaranteed.

The missionaries are in the country courtesy of the Baptist Church and will be involved in a door-to-door ministering and evangelism. The mission is coordinated by Chris Cowen and Jim Nimmons.
