Kisumu Catholic Arch Bishop Zachaues Okoth has asked Jubilee government to establish a research laboratory and charter for Uzima University.

Arch Bishop Okoth urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to provide a charter for Uzima University College.

"Mr. President I appeal to your government for Uzima University to obtain its charter in the next one year so that we may offer e-learning resource centre," said Arch Bishop Okoth.

The bishop said that there is need to establish medical research within the university to become centre of academic excellence.

Speaking on Monday afternoon in Kisumu, The arch bishop asked political and business community who attended his Silver Jubilee celebration to finance the needy medical students in their education through sponsorship and grants to support the institution.

"We have already established Uzima University Foundation with the sole mandate of providing financial support to the less fortunate children with academic progress," said Arch Bishop Okoth.

He urged Kenyans to invest in accommodation facilities for Uzima University students.

"I appeal to investors to build hostels for our children so that they may concentrate on their demanding studies rather than focus on the challenges of accommodation," said Arch Bishop Okoth adding that, "We know there are Kenyan business people and investors. Let them invest in accommodation."

Arch Bishop Okoth stated that he is not thinking of Uzima University alone saying that there is Mount Kenya University, University of Nairobi and Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology campuses and Maseno University in Kisumu around whose students do not have enough accommodation facilities.
