Nakuru County assembly speaker Susan Kihika has challenged leaders to prioritise education, saying that it would help make Nakuru a better place.

Speaking at Kiptororo secondary school during a funds drive for the purchasing of a school bus, Kihika took to task all leaders to ensure that positive changes had been done at their respective areas as far as educational matters were concerned.

“An educated society is very instrumental to development because driving a development agenda in an enlightened society is easy,” she said.

According to the speaker, it was useless for leaders to brag of having a successful term if they have initiated zero projects to support education.

“If you never had projects that would support education in your manifesto, I fail to understand why you were elected into office in the first place because in my view, that should be among the first development plans to any leader,” said Kihika.

She asked leaders to help improve school’s infrastructure that will offer an ample environment for good performance.

“Let’s prioritise education because when it comes to celebrating success, we do it as a bloc but in development, we leave it to selected persons in the society,” she said.

Kihika who was the guest of honour during the funds drive offered a personal donation of 700,000 and seized the opportunity to wish all candidates in the county success in the national exams.

Among other leaders at the function were deputy governor Joseph Ruto, Kericho senator Charles Keter, Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi and area MCA Samuel Ng’eno.
