An assistant chief has called on residents of Seregeya sub-location in Turbo to join a local scheme aimed at supporting bereaved families. Diana Owano has urged all people within the sub-location to come out in large numbers to join a church initiative that sees community members raise funds to support bereaved families. Speaking in Block Ten village at the home of John Chamwada who had lost his only daughter, Owano urged all the residents to join Christ Ambassadors in Mission (CAIM) support group to achieve this. CAIM is a support group based in Seregeya which comes together during funerals to give support to bereaved families. The group was initially meant for members of Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) churches in the area but Owano has said that a funeral is a communal issue that everyone has to participate in them. “This will give support to members of the community and also will serve to bring us together,” said Diana Owano. For one to be a member, they pay a Sh50 registration fee and contribute Sh20 for any funeral that arises among the registered members. “We want to agree as people of Seregeya and make it mandatory for every adult to join this group. You don’t know where death will strike next,” she said. Through talks with elders in the area, there are proposals that the initiative stretches its wings and cover all problems that affect members of the area, not only deaths.
