Athi River township ward representative, Michael Mutua, has requested the Machakos government to construct roads within his ward to ease accessibility.
The MCA who hosted governor, Alfred Mutua, and a delegation of members of parliament from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties on Monday said the roads he wanted refurbished were in dilapidated state.
"The county government of Machakos through the leadership of governor Mutua has done a lot across the county as far as infrastructure development is concerned. I request him to consider some of the roads within Athi River Township ward which are in dilapidated state," said Mutua.
Mutua who spoke at a public rally organised in Athi River Town on Monday said the roads connecting Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) Market from Mavoko through Njukoini and the road connecting 'Slaughter slums' to Nyambura matatu stage through KMC Market as those that needed immediate attention.
He said the roads needed grading, murram and eventual tarmacking saying they were impassible during the rainy season.
The MCA lauded the governor for fixing water scarcity challenge in the ward by providing boreholes to end the perennial problem of water shortage he says has for long been drawback to residents.
He said the ward should also be considered for CCTV installation in a bid of enhancing security due to increasingly high population given that the ward also comprises of Athi River cosmopolitan town.
