Athi River Ward Representative Michael Mutua has asked residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi iniative.
Speaking to the public at Athi River town on Saturday, the MCA said that every citizen must embrace Nyumba Kumi as a way of enhancing security.
The MCA said that with frequent terror and security threats, adopting the inititative will help save the situation.
“As residents of Athi-River, we have a responsibility of knowing every person living close to us, we must embrace Nyumba Kumi and help the police on their work of promoting law and order,” he said.
Mutua said that criminals are living within the people, observing that security in the Ward will improve if residents are willing to expose criminals.
Mutua said that neighbouring Wards have embraced Nyumba Kumi and have seen crime rates going down.
He urged local leaders to organize forums and sensitize the residents on security measures, further calling on the police to intensify patrols and deal with criminal elements.
The MCA also warned youths in the Ward against taking part crime, advising them that it will not solve their problems, but will only spell doom for them.
He noted that he will support security measures to be implemented, and called for formulation of laws that will strengthen security agencies.
