Kiambu County Alcohol Control Board has commenced the vetting of bars that are situated outside towns in Juja Sub-County.
Led by the board’s director Michael Kang’ethe, the group called on all bar owners in Juja and Witeithie to attend the meeting convened at the chief’s camp in Witeithie.
Addressing the public at the meeting which was presided over by the area ward administrator James Gichuru on Thursday, Kang’ethe said they will ensure the alcohol sold in the pubs and restaurants in the area is safe for human consumption.
He called on the bar owners and operators to ensure they adhere to the stipulated rules of the Alcoholic Control Act before they are licensed.
The director further said that through the partnership with the bar owners, they will be able to apprehend the rogue operators who sell counterfeit drinks and those that contravene the Mututho laws.
“We have created a rapport with these bars owner. Since they do not have licenses, they will fight for their businesses by identifying the rogue operators who contravene the laws stipulated in our guidelines,” said Kang’ethe.
Gicheru on his part vowed to ensure the reformed alcoholics are catered for by unveiling new projects and keeping them busy in a bid to ensure they shun alcohol.
He called on the bar owners to ensure their bars only sell approved drinks.
