Saying that some are masking themselves as restaurants, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich added that during their regular crackdown on illicit brews, they had come across liquor being sold even during morning hours with sellers claiming that they were restaurants.

Ng’etich who spoke from his office on Friday cautioned those operating as restaurants and permitted by the law to strictly sell alcohol during the day that they should not sell more than two bottles to a single person.

"Those operating as bars should follow the laws and sell their drinks during authorised times to avoid getting into the wrong side of the law," he said.

Ng'etich added that police officers would not relent in the enforcement of the law.

The OCPD added that they were working hand in hand with the chiefs, going round the county and even homesteads to eradicate the problem of illicit brews and excessive drunkenness.

Jacob Ngige, who owns a restaurant in Kiambu Town, says that though most people went asking for alcohol even in the early hours of the day, it was important to exercise restraint and not give in to their demands.

“Otherwise, we will turn into a drinking county especially if security personnel are not alert,” he said.
