Youths in Kisumu County have been urged to be innovative if they want to kick out poverty.

Speaking to Hivisasa on phone on Monday, the county’s Youth Forum deputy secretary general Davis Okeyo said that young people should stop waiting for the government to offer them jobs as doing so is suicidal.

“We as young people should innovate jobs and stop relying on the government because as we know, youths are many and even if the jobs are available, they won’t be enough for all of us,” said Okeyo.

He added that youths should instead be job creators in order to fight poverty and ensure that future generations are economically empowered.

He added that youths have the brains and all they have to do is think extra hard to come up with ideas that will boost the economy.

“Innovation is a solution to perennial criminal activities usually associated with young people.Nobody will have the time to engage in crime as he will be busy focusing on his or her idea,” added the youth leader.

He said that the government is now supporting such innovative ideas through initiatives such as the Uwezo Fund and youth should take advantage of such funds to prosper.
