Police officers in Kisii County have been challenged to conduct thorough investigations whenever they get information from the public.

On Wednesday, Governor James Ongwae challenged the officers to also devise better ways of involving the public in taming insecurity in the county.

“I urge you to do proper investigations as well as involve the public so that we can work together to fight crime,” said Ongwae.

He was addressing police officers at Kisii Cultural Hall during a police forum organised by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The governor added that his government is ready to work with the police to improve security in the county.

He also told them to build a good relationship with the public besides educating it on how they can work together in the fight against crime.

“We need to have a good relationship with the public so that we can fight crime,” Ongwae added.

He noted that there are many cases which need proper and thorough investigations so that innocent people are not victimised just because someone had a personal vendetta against them.

“Such cases when they are not well investigated sometimes cause a problem in society so both parties should be considered and investigations should be thorough,” he said.
