Kisii residents have been advised to beware of waterborne diseases during El Nino and take necessary precautions seriously.

According to the Kisii County Director of Health Dr Geoffrey Ontomu, measures are in place to help them deal with diseases that might emerge during the season.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital during the flagging of 200 bicycles to community workers donated by Amref Kenya, Dr Ontomu said that the ministry of health is aware that there might be outbreak of waterborne diseases and malaria hence they have measures in place that will help them counter the diseases.

“We are aware of some diseases that might break during the rainy season so we have preventive measures that will help our residents stay healthy," said Dr Ontomu.

He said community health workers will be given identification cards for easy identification by residents when they visit their homes.

“We are going to provide our community workers with identification cards so that when they visit residents they do not appear like strangers," added Dr Ontomu.

He also advised them to make sure that they use medical kits appropriately when given as they are there to help affected residents.

“I urge you to use all kits that you are given well so that you can reach our people to identify what affects their areas,” he said.
