Uasin Gishu Roads committee executive Gideon Birir has urged the national government through the Ministry of Finance to hasten the release of funds to the county government so that the ministry can implement its projects effectively.

Speaking in his office on Friday, Birir said major projects have stalled due to lack of funds and yet there is an El Nino alert.

"It is sad that up to now the national government has not released the monies to the county government for road projects. Paying contractors, maintenance of vehicles and machinery has also been a problem. We also lack fuel in our stores leaving most vehicles and road construction machines packed and yet there are many projects that need to be completed," he said.

He reiterated that the delay in the release of funds has paralysed work in the ministry and urged the national Treasury to fast track the process to ensure that the funds are released.

He said there are projects that have not kicked off started and yet need to be completed within the stipulated time frame.
