Police in Thika are probing an incident where a suspected motorcycle thief was lynched by boda boda operators on Wednesday night near Cravers Hotel.

The deceased is alleged to have been a member of a gang that has been attacking boda boda operators in the area at night and stealing from them.

It is alleged that on Tuesday evening one of the operators was attacked near Blue Post Hotel and his motorcycle stolen. But on Wednesday the deceased was seen riding the stolen motorbike at night.

Boda boda operators arrested him and beat him up before lynching him.

Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia cautioned Thika residents against taking the law into their hands and added that they should give police a chance to do their job every time they apprehend a suspected criminal.

The officer noted that cases of boda boda operators being attacked have increased in Thika town. He said police have been investigating the issue as the operators had reported.

Muthamia called on the community to work hand in hand with the security officers to make it easier for them to fight crime and insecurity in Thika.

He was speaking at General Kago Mortuary on Thursday morning when the police took the deceased’s remains to the morgue.
