Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet will on Friday hold a National Police Service reforms forum in Kisumu.

The forum will enable senior police officers and their juniors in the region to engage on how best the service can be improved.

Some of the issues expected to be deliberated on are review of salaries and welfare as part of police reforms.

The major challenges officers are facing are poor salaries, housing and welfare.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Joseph Keitany said the meeting will be held at Tom Mboya Labour College on Friday.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Keitany said the IG is expected to arrive in Kisumu on Thursday evening.

Boinnet is also expected to commission two police posts in Migosi and Nyalenda constructed by the Kisumu Central Constituency Development Fund at a cost of Sh4.2 million.

Mr Nashon Ngwena, the CDF Manager Kisumu Central said the two facilities will help curb rising crime in the town.

A similar meeting had been hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre last week with officers calling for better remuneration and working conditions.

Officers including those from the ranks of superintendent of police to Senior Assistant Inspector General urged the IG to expedite reforms.

The officers asked Boinett to harmonise promotions alongside paying police officers commuter allowances.

They said unlike other public servants the police have been denied commuter allowance yet they use PSVs and private vehicles to travel to work.

Boinett reassured the officers they would soon be 'enjoying' their stay in the service but did not say when the salaries and allowances would be reviewed

He said there will be equal distribution of resources between the Administration Police and the Kenya Police.

Police Director of Reforms Patrick Ochieng said the service will be required to internally deal with tribalism and nepotism, which have eroded the confidence and morale of officers.
