Parents in Bonchari constituency in Kisii County have been urged to apply for CDF bursaries for their children since it was the constitutional right for every child to get an education.

According to Bonchari CDF committee Chairperson Richard Manono residents of the area have the laxity to go for bursaries and yet the needy children are not going to school for lack of school fees.

He explained that the government had put in place ways through which it could eradicate poverty, and provision of education was one of the initiatives.

He said the process of applying for a bursary was very simple as bursary forms could be obtained from the chief’s office or from sub-county education offices.

Once it was filled it should be submitted to the relevant office and feedback will be made within a month.

He said the only requirements that a parent should have is; a child passes and there is no means to provide the school fees needed, if the parent is a low income earner and is struggling with paying for the child’s fees and if he or she feels they need assistance.

He also added that the forms were also available from schools.

Manono noted that there were various bursaries and that’s why there was free primary education.

If a parent is found denying his or her son or daughter to go to school they can be arrested and tried in court.
