Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chepkoilel branch Secretary General in Uasin Gishu County, John Bor urged MPs on Saturday not to rush in passing or rejecting the basic education amendment bill 2014 tabled in parliament by Karachuonyo MP, James Rege.
Bor was addressing the media from his office where he also added that the union does not reject the bill but pleads with MPs to involve education stakeholders before it is addressed.
‘In the education sector, the teachers, religious bodies, the experts and all the ministry and the teachers service commission should be involved in making the bill so that we can come with one agreement and resolution.’ he explained.
Bor further added that involving key sectors will be key in ensuring all parties take part in the process without overlooking the other.
The bill which is expected to be tabled by Rege in the parliament has also got the backing of many people including Former Education assistant minister, Kilemi Mwiria.
The bill seeks to do scrap national examinations the KCPE and KCSE and replace them with mandatory end-year progress exams for the learners.
