Tension engulfed Borabu primary school as angry parents stormed the institution on Tuesday morning, demanding to know why they should pay 'illegal' fees.
According to them, school head Pius Onkoba acted beyond his jurisdiction by ordering each child to pay Sh500 for preps without calling a meeting with parents.
They demanded immediate sacking of the school head, who had run away from the institution at the time of the incident besides calling for his prosecution for alleged attempt to defraud them.
“This is a public institution and to my understanding, no child should be sent away for school because of school fee. Education is free and school heads have to respect that. He should be sacked and face prosecution for attempting to defraud us,” said Isaac Monari.
They defended their move of descending in the institution and accused the school management and PTA of failing to call constant meetings to discuss the issue.
“Preps are a good idea but the decision must be endorsed by all of us. The management and PTA are being insincere meaning that they are hiding something. They will have to explain as well why they agreed on the figure without consulting us,” added Vane Nyaboke.
However Mr Onkoba defended the move by saying representatives had passed the resolution and implementation was to be executed by the management.
“We do not have to call all parents to discuss something good for our children. The representatives had passed the resolution and I think our work was to implement it. However, if they do not want, we can as well drop it,” he said on phone.
